I shut down Lawlady.com and went on a sabbatical four years ago. In my time off, I took many couple's relationship and love classes. I studied http://callingintheone.com/ with Katherine Woodward Thomas. This book and online training is about finding true love. I attended a few tantra trainings, workshops and lectures with great sex educators like Reid Mahalco at ReidAboutSex.com. After so much break up and divorce, I wanted to reaffirm the importance and goodness of relationships. I didn't just burn out on divorce legal work four years ago, I burned out on the institution of marriage. I asked myself hard questions like.... is long term love possible. I wasn't so sure anymore.
I also signed up for Psychology Today's facebook feed. Inevitably, a few times a week, Psychology Today posts some really good information about relationships, dating, marriage; and personality defects and how to overcome them and deal with people who have them. I'm always learning some new tip from those posts.
My romantic nature has been restored in my time off. I see that good, loving relationships are achieved via effort and education. We all can be better at finding and preserving love. I admire these relationship and love gurus and see the value of life-time focus on our people relating skills.
All this pro-relationship education and training, I am eager to write relationship contracts with couples. Divorce rates can be lowered with thoughtful negotiation in advance of the alter. Short term relationship agreements can be a wonderful alternative to the all encompassing pressure of a marriage commitment. What about a year-long relationship agreement with a built in exit plan, if either party fails to reenlist after the year? I suggest we will be seeing alternative relationship contracts grow with time.
It feels good to be back focusing on the area of matrimonial law.
