A reader posted a comment about her dissatisfaction about collaborative law and Pauline Tesler, the mother of the collaborative law movement. Many others would disagree with the reader's comment (See comment to my April 3 blog entry Where to Go for the Latest on Collaborative Law). If you are interested her website is at Narcissistic Abuse.
I've been sitting here at the computer trying to think up a response to the reader. I'm at a loss for how to respond. The reader seems strong in her opinion against Tesler. Tesler has worked hard to train litigators how to de-claw themselves and stop doing damage to families. But yet, the reader is pointing to legitimate gripes about collaborative process that practitioners need to be aware of to avoid having similar unhappy clients.
Check out the website and make your own choice/opinion.
Thank you reader for sharing. (I still think collaborative law is best for most situations).
Hi, just saw your response to my comment. Thanks for linking, but you linked to the first page of my site and no one will find the collaborative pages that way. The first page of my collaborative section is at http://www.narcissisticabuse.com/collaborative.html
From there they can find the page on Pauline Tesler. And one on Michael Lowy and one of Ron Romines. Some fun videos from The Austin Bar also.
I also recently blogged about why collaborative is so problematic and explained the breach of ethics of CL attorneys in context of Zimbardos' new book. My post is called Philip Zimbardo and Michael Lowy: The Lucifer Effect. Michael was my collaborative attorney who refused to follow the law, then shared client emails with opposing counsel. http://usingpositivepsychology.typepad.com/using_positive_psychology/2007/05/philip_zimbardo.html
Zimbardo's explanation of institutions and systems with no oversight explains collaborative's problems and why it turns good attorneys bad.
